Getting Started:
Purchase an LG 6190 USB data cable from The Phone Mall. 1. Download and install drivers. Get LG 6190 USB drivers here 2. When installing the drivers hit NO for Windows Update driver search and YES for automatically install. (You may have to click 'Yes' on the Windows XP Logo Testing box that continually pops up for each driver it installs) 3. Download and install BitPim. Get BitPim here Connecting your phone: 4. Power your phone on. Set your phone Data Connection method to RS-232C and make sure speed is on 115200 bps. Plug the cable into it and plug the cable into your PC. ![]() ![]() 5. Open up BitPim and go to Edit - click on Settings. ![]() 6. Select LG-VX6100 from the Phone Type Drop down Menu. If you are using an earlier version of BitPim you will not see this option. This option is not required. ![]() 7. Click on Browse beside COM Port . You should see a list of available COM ports including: Prolific USB-to-Serial. Click and highlight this device. Note that COM port number does not have to be 7. ![]() 8. To ensure you are properly connected click View at the top of your screen and check 'Filesystem' A Filesystem tab will appear. Click the + beside it. You should see your phone's directory listing. ![]() 9. Press the + on that appeared after you chose to view the filesystem. You will now see a Directory listing of all your phones files! The filesystem image shown here is a just an example. Phone guru, you are the first person i will turn to for help becasue i read your tutuorial. im, pulling my hair out man!! please help me.
I followed your instructions to the tee. Im running xp, installed bitpim, the usb driver that came with my cable and even trried the LG usb softare i downloaded. I load the drivers, plug the phone/cable in and I've had a few "not able to install hardware" errors. I then rebooted after the driver install and I think I got around the first problem.
Then - in BitPIM, I don't see the USD->Serial driver option in with my COM ports. My phone is not detected... I'm bummed. Waited a while for the cable and package and I just want to use it.. Thanks for any help anyone can offer. - Adam |

To access the filesystem, simply delete enough photos so it is below this number. There IS a workaround for this for anyone who does not want to delete photos to do this. If anyone requests this I'll post instructions on how to do this. |
